Degree-day

A unit of measure used to establish heating or cooling requirements, one degree-day being accumulated for each degree by which the average outside temperature on a given day is higher or lower than a reference temperature, generally 18°C.

This unit of measure is used for certain weather derivatives. The terms heating degree-day (HDD) and cooling degree-day (CDD) are common in this context.
